Hey! Hope you guys are having a pleasant weekend! With my practice to start the day, and with the onset of monsoons here in Goa, I’ve been in a rather good mood too.
For starters, I’ve been frequently dealing with a stiff neck and slight strain in my back muscles. All thanks to the “work from home” culture, so I thought why not curate a simple Saturday series (posting this on a Sunday due to network issues) for the work from home and tech-savvy fam.
So what is a ‘Tech neck‘?
The cervical spine which is nothing but a fancy name for your neck is shaped (lordotic curvature) in such a way that it can balance the weight of your head evenly. It is highly flexible making it vulnerable leading to problems like shoulder pain, headaches, wrong posture, spinal wear and tear, which is detrimental in the long term.
Due to continuously working on the computer or looking down at your phone the muscles in the neck have to contract to hold your head up, and the further you bend the more stress (increases the weight) they undergo leading to something popularly known as a “Tech neck“. The pain in the neck further radiates to your shoulders and upper back.

Here I’ve put together a short video with some simple stretches and exercises.
A few simple tips to consciously follow!
*Raise your phone to your eye level while using it.
*Change your posture. Avoid sitting in one position for too long.
*Usage of a proper chair and table in your workspace will reduce unnecessary body aches and strain on the body.
*Adjust the height of the chair and table such that you do not have to hunch or hang too low.
*Take frequent walk breaks.
*Arch and Stretch periodically to release the stress on your muscles.
Your body is naturally designed for movement. Moving in a simple way that is natural to your body’s anatomy is enough and will nourish and strengthen it. So go ahead move, release and allow yourself to be happy!
